Standard 7:
Teachers are able to plan different kinds of lessons.
The teacher organizes and plans systematic instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, pupils, the community, and curriculum goals.

Evidence:

Rationale:
After studying mass, volume, density and properties in 6th grade science class the students had a day of review. This review was in the form of a power point and the students worked on this in groups. They collaborated with their group on the answers to the questions and also competed against other groups.

This was important to me as a teacher so I could make sure the students understood the material that had been taught and if there was any area that needed to be re-taught. It also allowed me to see if the pacing of the material taught was too fast, too slow or just right. If the majority of the students didn’t know an answer I knew that I went too fast covering that topic. This was also helpful for the students to have a day of review in the form that they liked and were willing to participate in. It also gave the students an idea of what would be presented on the final test. After doing this review I saw that the students performed better on the test compared to when I didn’t do the review.

KSD:
7.K.1 The teacher understands learning theory, subject matter, curriculum development, and student development to plan instruction and to meet curriculum goals based on content standards.
I clearly understand the subject matter being taught by providing questions that I taught the students throughout the unit but with different numbers/subjects. Students used technology and groups to work on this review which they did every day in class.

7.S.3 The teacher creates lessons and activities that operate at multiple levels to meet the development and individual needs of diverse learners and help each progress.
The review power point has multiple different level questions so that each student has the opportunity to answer and challenge themselves with high level questions. Also, in the power point are pictures, videos, and equations for the visual learners.

7.D.1 The teacher values both long-term and short-term planning.
I made this power point as I taught each section in science knowing what what on the final test. This power point helped me form the final test the students were tested on.
