Standard 6 Teachers communicate well. The teacher uses effective verbal and nonverbal communication techniques as well as instructional media and technology to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom.
Rationale: This is a power point about myself. I have not used it in the classroom yet but it would provide the students background information about me as a person and as a teacher. It would be important to me as a teacher because it would allow my students to understand me better as a teacher and feel more comfortable with me. I want my students to know that they can come and talk to me about anything and the better then know me the more comfortable they will feel. It would be helpful for my students because it would allow them to get to know me better. I would use it at the beginning of the year as an introduction to my classroom and myself. As my students are new to middle school and have many teachers to get to know this would be just another way for them to try and get acquainted with me.
KSD: 6.K.4 The teacher recognizes the importance of nonverbal, verbal and media communication techniques. I acknowledge the need for different types of communication techniques and that is why on this power point I used pictures, written words and sounds.
6.S.5 The teacher knows how to use a variety of media communication tools, including audiovisual aids and computers, to enrich learning opportunities. I understand that students do not all learn the same way, that is why I made this power point. It allows the students to visually see the pictures, words and hear sounds on the computer which will enrich the students’ learning.
6.D.2 The teacher values many ways in which people seek to communicate and encourages many modes of communication in the classroom. Using all the different forms of media in the power point I prove that I value the different types of communication to enhance students’ learning
