Standard 10: Teachers are connected with other teachers and the community. The teacher fosters relationships with school colleagues, parents, and agencies in the larger community to support pupil learning and well being and acts with integrity, fairness and in an ethical manner.
Rationale: I created a classroom website for my students and families to communicate better with each other. The website has background information about myself on there, materials that are needed for each class, and the monthly newsletter.
The website is important to me as a teacher because is would force me to be organized and up to date with information. It also is very important because it allows me to have another means of communication with the families of my students. The website is valuable to my students because it allows them to find background information about me, the materials that are needed daily for class and the monthyly newsletter of upcoming events in our house.
KSD: 10.K.2 The teacher understands how factors in the students’ environment outside of school (e.g. family circumstances, community environments, health, and economic conditions) may influence students’ lives and learning. I clearly understand how students’ lives outside of school can effect their lives and learning. Therefore, I made a website that allows the students to view it when they are not at school. The website helps students stay organized and informs them and their families about what is happening in our house for the month. I never actually used this website because after I made it I went maternity leave and then the following year I started teaching new subjects and new grade levels. To update my website I would have to have access to Dreamweaver and I don’t so I don’t have any way to update it as of now.
10.S.4 The teacher establishes respectful and productive relationships with parents and guardians from diverse home and community situations and seeks cooperative partnerships in support of student learning and well being. The website is another form of cummonuciation with the parents about their child and what their child is doing in school. The website also has my contact information on there if they need to communicate with me.
10.D.1 The teacher values and appreciates all aspects of a child’s experience. I know and respect that the students have other obligations in their lives besides school. Knowing that a child’s life can get very hectic, the website will help alleviate some of the stress that comes with all the activites the child is responsible for.
